WordPress Questions from Twitter – June 30, 2010
June 30, 2010 – 9:20 pm |I posed a question to Twitter:
Do you use WordPress? I am looking for questions to answer about WordPress. Bring it on.
The responses:
@mbernier good gravy. Your timing is impeccable. How do I add the thing that let’s people sign up for email notices of new blog?
@sarah_gore This is a plugin called “post notifcation”. You can go to the plugins menu in the sidebar, click add-new then search for it.
@mbernier Ok, here’s one! Is there an easy way to incorporate a forum on a WordPress Web site? Last I checked, there wasn’t…
@jenajean BBPress is a great way to do this, also vbulletin has a way. Bbpress: http://bit.ly/bd4BmO Vbulletin: http://bit.ly/9ZIhNu
@mbernier Thanks, Matt – will check them both out!
@mbernier Installed WP 2.9.2 using Fantastico. In admin area all graphic links show broken (red x). No one knows why. Any ideas?
@PhilLadden more than likely, fantastico screwed up the permissions or didn’t install them, easy fix either way
@mbernier Why doesn’t the <br> work like it ought to? And how do I create magic?
@timbrauhn WordPress filters it, or your theme has “broken” it in the styles. To create magic just add one part …
@mbernier Do you have any hints on how to bring more readers to my wordpress blog? So far, LinkedIn groups have been the best source.
@janehadji Social Media. Linked in is a great place, but you are on Twitter…you should use it too
@janehadji Keep it up, people will find you. Its all about consistency
@janehadji You can also post your articles to sites like reddit, digg, and stumbleupon…those can bring lots of traffic
@janehadji Also it looks like you don’t have your blog linked on your twitter profile. Definitely do that!
@mbernier Is it okay to use google images pictures on wordpress, or is that some sort of copyright infringement?
@janehadji Depends on the pictures, since they come from other people’s sites you should visit the site to see if they copywrite them.
@janehadji I am a big fan of wiki commons, free everything there all open licensing http://bit.ly/cgeSJ2
@mbernier Thank you! I just looked @ wiki commons, had not heard of it. I post to Twitter, too, but don’t get many readers.
